On Disability
January 15, 2008
And I thought we can start on our savings for this year at the end of the month, then we hit a curve ball. Since I was having preterm labor at the beginning of the year, the doctor recommended for me to stay home till the baby is due. I’m glad to be home to avoid any further stress from work that can cause the baby to come out sooner. We’re not really ready for her to come out yet. But this also means that I’m taking a pay cut, having to be on disability for about 2 months. I’ve never been on DB before, it’s so overwhelming to do all the paperwork, contacting my case manager, following up with my HR lady at work and the hospital and waiting for approvals, etc. I don’t know how people do this.
Anyway, it’s good we have a little bit of savings that can help us out. And I’m being reminded how blessed I am to have a job, my job! It’s funny how I’ve considered to stop working and now that I have a glimpse of what it’s like (not getting a paycheck), I’m not really liking it that much! Yes, I’d like to be home with my kids rather than work, but until there are bills that needs to be paid for, I have to keep working (at least as much as I can).
